LG C6 48-inch vs Samsung S90H 48-inch

Two 165Hz 48-inch OLEDs at the same $1,099 price: LG's glossy C6 with Dolby Vision, or Samsung's matte Glare Free S90H. Your room decides.

By The WhichTVShouldIBuy editorsUpdated

At 48 inches, LG and Samsung meet at the same price: $1,099 for the LG C6 and $1,097.99 for the Samsung S90H on Amazon on October 7, both sold by Amazon. Both run at 165Hz on four HDMI 2.1 ports, and RTINGS says both use tandem panels at this size. The real difference is the screen surface: the LG is glossy, the Samsung matte.

This is an editorial comparison from manufacturer specs and published reviews, not our own testing. RTINGS reviewed the 48-inch C6 as a monitor; no outlet has reviewed the 48-inch S90H, so its measurements come from 55- and 65-inch reviews. The video below is RTINGS comparing the S90H with last year's S90F.

Option A

Choose the LG C6 48 if…

  • Your room is dim, or you control the light
  • You want Dolby Vision for films and Xbox games
  • You want a model RTINGS has tested at this size as a monitor
  • You prefer webOS

Option B

Choose the Samsung S90H 48 if…

  • A window or bright overhead lights face the screen
  • You'll mount it: it's 9.4 lb lighter
  • You'd rather have Tizen and Samsung Gaming Hub
  • You can live without Dolby Vision

Our verdict

It's a tie — your setup decides

It's a tie, and your room decides. In a dim room the LG C6 48 is the safer buy: glossy-screen blacks, Dolby Vision, and an RTINGS monitor review at this exact size. If a window or office lights hit your screen, the S90H's matte coating is worth more than any spec difference, which is how RTINGS frames the S90H against the C6.

Frequently asked questions

Does the matte coating hurt picture quality?

A little, in a lit room: Tom's Guide and CNET both saw slightly raised or grayish blacks on the S90H's matte screen with the lights on. In return, reflections that would mirror on the glossy LG are diffused. In a dark room the difference largely disappears.

Which is better for an Xbox Series X?

The LG, if you care about Dolby Vision gaming, which Xbox supports and the Samsung doesn't. Both handle 4K 120Hz with VRR on all four ports.

Are both tandem OLEDs?

RTINGS says so: it found a tandem panel in the 48-inch LG C6, and it says the 48-inch S90H uses an RGB tandem panel. Neither maker uses that word on its US spec sheet.
