Advertising and Google AdSense

We use Google AdSense to show ads on this site. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some other third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info. If you opt out, you may still see ads; they just won't be based on your browsing. Non-personalized ads can still use cookies for things like limiting how often you see an ad, aggregated reporting, and preventing fraud.

Where the law requires consent for advertising cookies, such as for visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland, we use Google's consent management platform: you'll see a consent message before cookies are used for personalized ads. Your choice is stored in a cookie; clearing this site's cookies in your browser brings the message back so you can choose again.

Affiliate links and Amazon

Many “Check price” buttons on this site are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. When you follow one of these links to Amazon, Amazon may set cookies on your device so it can credit the purchase to us. Amazon's reports show us which products were ordered through our links, not who ordered them. What Amazon collects is covered by the Amazon.com Privacy Notice. Analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It doesn't use cookies; instead Vercel recognizes a visit by a hash of the incoming request, which it discards after 24 hours. We see only aggregated numbers, such as which pages are read, which sites send visitors, and broad country, browser, and device counts. Nothing we see identifies you. Vercel describes this in its Web Analytics privacy documentation.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel processes the technical details your browser sends with each request, such as your IP address, browser type, and the page requested, to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. See Vercel's privacy notice.

Embedded videos

Some guides include a YouTube video. Until you press play we show only a thumbnail served from our own site; pressing play loads YouTube's privacy-enhanced (youtube-nocookie.com) player, after which Google's privacy policy applies to that video.

What we collect ourselves

• We don't create user accounts, and nothing on this site asks for your name, email, or other contact details.
• Your answers in our pick-finders stay in your browser, and your light or dark theme choice is saved in your browser's local storage. Neither is sent to us.
• We don't knowingly collect personal information beyond what the third parties above process when you visit.
• If you write to us, we use your message and address only to reply and to act on what you sent (fixing a correction you reported, for example).
• We don't sell, rent, or trade personal information.

Children

This site is for a general audience and isn't directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

• Turn off personalized Google ads in Ads Settings.
• Block or delete cookies in your browser's settings. The site works without them.
• For data that Google, Amazon, or Vercel hold, use their privacy tools linked above; we can't access or delete it for you.

Changes to this policy
