Head to head

TCL QM7L vs Hisense U7SG

The two most cross-shopped midrange mini-LEDs of 2026: TCL's QM7L and Hisense's U7SG. Brightness, sports, gaming, sizes, and price — which is the better buy?

By The WhichTVShouldIBuy editorsUpdated

If you want a bright, big TV without paying for a flagship, these two are where most shopping ends up. TCL's QM7L and Hisense's U7SG are 2026 quantum-dot mini-LEDs aimed at the same buyer: a sunny living room, lots of streaming and sports, and a budget around $1,000. They're closer than their marketing suggests.

This is an editorial comparison drawn from manufacturer specs and published professional reviews, not our own lab measurements. Prices are approximate mid-size street figures from our October 5, 2026 research.

Our verdict

Editor's pick

TCL QM7L

For most shoppers the QM7L is the default: it usually costs a little less, comes in bigger sizes, and is just as suited to a sunny room. Pick the U7SG if sports come first or it's the cheaper of the two in your size on the day you shop. If you mostly watch at night in a dark room, neither is ideal; step up to the QM8L or U8QG, or consider an OLED like the Roku Pro Series.

Frequently asked questions

Which is better for sports, the QM7L or the U7SG?

The U7SG, narrowly. It gets a 5 of 5 sports fit score in our ratings versus the QM7L's 4, thanks to strong brightness and motion for the money. Both are good daytime sports TVs.

Should I step up to the TCL QM8L or Hisense U8QG?

If you watch at night or care about contrast, yes. Both step-up models have stronger local dimming and better dark-room performance. The QM8L starts at 65 inches; the U8QG also comes in 55.

Are these good for a dark home theater?

Not ideal. Both score 3 of 5 for dark rooms in our ratings. For movies with the lights off, an OLED like the Roku Pro Series OLED — priced around what a large QM7L costs — will look far more cinematic.

Which has the better smart platform?

The QM7L runs Google TV. Hisense uses different platforms for the U7SG depending on the region, so check the exact listing. Either way, a streaming stick can replace a built-in platform you don't like.
