Hisense U7SG: prices, fit, and what the testing says

RTINGS' favorite 65-inch under $1,000, when it's on sale. On October 19 it wasn't, and the 65-inch cost more than an LG C6 OLED.

Our take

The short version

The U7SG has the widest gap in our catalog between how good the TV is and how good the deal is. RTINGS rates it a bit better overall than the TCL QM7L, with a matte screen that handles reflections much better, four HDMI 2.1 ports, and better processing, motion, and HDR accuracy. It calls it the best 65-inch TV under $1,000 when on sale.

The sale ended while we watched. Amazon.com had the 65-inch at $829.99 on October 12. On October 19 it was $1,497.99 there and $1,499.99 at Best Buy, which showed $999.99 only to paid My Best Buy members. Hisense's own US page listed no price and said Coming Soon.

At $1,500, our value score drops it to the middle band, and the helper stops picking it. Watch for the next sale before you buy.

Price history

No TV here swung harder. The 65-inch went from $827.99 on October 7 to $829.99 on October 12, then $1,497.99 on October 19, and the 55-inch doubled from $647.99 to $1,297.99. Best Buy's regular prices matched Amazon's within $2 at every size on October 19. If it falls back near the QM7L's price, it's the better TV, per RTINGS.

The scores, explained

Fit by room and use

By room

Bright room5/5Tied 1st of 15 (7 TVs)
Very bright, with a matte screen on the 55- to 85-inch sizes. RTINGS ranks it among the best TVs for bright rooms.
Mixed light4/5Tied 9th of 15 (4 TVs) · average of bright and dark
Excellent by day. With the lights down its scores fall back to the QM7L's, so the blend sits mid-pack.
Dark room3/5Tied 13th of 15 (3 TVs)
RTINGS praises its deep, uniform blacks, which is kinder than our dark-room score. We've flagged that score for review; for now it sits below the U8QG's and QM8L's.

By use

Movies & TV3/5Tied 13th of 15 (3 TVs)
Dolby Vision and HDR10+, with better HDR accuracy than the QM7L, per RTINGS. The narrow viewing angle and LCD blooming keep it a step down for films.
Sports5/5Tied 1st of 15 (5 TVs)
Bright, with clearer motion than the QM7L, per RTINGS. RTINGS also flags slow response and a distracting dirty screen effect in fast sports, so our top score here is the other one we've flagged for review.
Gaming4/5Tied 7th of 15 (9 TVs)
Four HDMI 2.1 ports with 4K at 165Hz, 1080p at 330Hz, and VRR. RTINGS also notes slow response times, which blur fast motion.
A bit of everything4/5Tied 10th of 15 (3 TVs) · average of movies, sports, and gaming
Top sports and good gaming, with movies as its weakest use.

What Find my TV picks it for

The Hisense U7SG isn't on the shortlist for any of the helper's 144 possible answers. The helper never picks the U7SG at its October 19 price. At about $1,500 it fits only the two higher budgets, and cheaper sets match or beat its scores there. Its best showing is a tie for third with no limit, for bright-room sports, which the Sony Bravia 5 wins on our tiebreak: the same value score and estimate, and more total picture points. At its October 12 sale price it would sit in our value tier, and that would change.

  • Under $1,000

    Over budget at ~$1,500.

  • Under $1,200

    Over budget at ~$1,500.

  • Under $1,800
