Headphone buying guide
The Best Headphones for Android in 2026
Sony's WF-1000XM6 earbuds and WH-1000XM6 over-ears lead for Android. Galaxy Buds4 Pro are for Galaxy owners only, and Soundcore covers tight budgets.
Android phones can use more Bluetooth codecs than iPhones, so spec sheets matter more here: Sony's LDAC is widely supported on Android, and Qualcomm's aptX Adaptive works on compatible Snapdragon phones. But Android isn't one platform. Samsung keeps the Galaxy Buds4 Pro's best features for Galaxy phones, so a Pixel owner and a Galaxy owner should shop differently.

The Verge, WIRED, Trusted Reviews, Android Authority, and GSMArena call it the top choice for Galaxy owners, and it's SoundGuys' Samsung pick. How we chose
For Android we started with platform fit: which features work on any Android phone and which need a specific brand. That's why the Galaxy Buds4 Pro ranks high but carries a warning. Then we weighted travel and calls, and sound counted a little more than in our iPhone guide, because Android phones can use LDAC and, on Snapdragon Sound phones, aptX Adaptive.
SoundGuys' rankings and MacRumors' April 21, 2026 comparison set the earbud order; Wirecutter's noise-cancelling guide and SoundGuys' roundup set the over-ears. The Verge, WIRED, Trusted Reviews, Android Authority, and GSMArena informed the Buds4 Pro pick, and Tom's Guide, TechRadar, and Cult of Mac the Liberty 5. One brand is missing: Jabra left consumer earbuds in 2024, so there are no Elite picks.
Galaxy Buds4 Pro: only with a Galaxy phone
The Buds4 Pro is the best pair for Galaxy owners, and only for Galaxy owners. The 24-bit/96 kHz Samsung Seamless Codec works only with Galaxy devices, and the full set of app features needs a Galaxy phone. On a Pixel, OnePlus, or other Android phone, it connects over standard codecs (AAC, SBC, or LC3) without those extras.
Reviewers are blunt about it: non-Samsung Android owners should look elsewhere. The Sony WF-1000XM6 is the better buy at ~$258, or the Soundcore Liberty 5 at ~$79.99.
LDAC or aptX?
Both are higher-bitrate alternatives to the standard SBC and AAC codecs. LDAC is Sony's and is widely supported on Android. aptX Adaptive is Qualcomm's and needs a compatible phone, typically one with Snapdragon Sound. Neither is a reason to buy a worse-fitting headphone; on a bus or a plane, a good seal and strong ANC matter more than bitrate.
Here's which codec each model we cover supports:
- LDAC: Sony WH-1000XM6 and WF-1000XM6, Soundcore Space One and Liberty 5.
- aptX Adaptive: Bose QC Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) and QC Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen), both with Snapdragon Sound, plus the Sennheiser Momentum 5, which also lists aptX Lossless.
- aptX Lossless: Sonos Ace Ultra.
- Galaxy only: the Samsung Seamless Codec on the Galaxy Buds4 Pro.
Frequently asked questions
Do Galaxy Buds4 Pro work with non-Samsung Android phones?
They connect over standard Bluetooth codecs, but the Samsung Seamless Codec and the full app features need a Galaxy phone. Reviewers say non-Samsung Android owners should look elsewhere. The Sony WF-1000XM6 (~$258) or the Soundcore Liberty 5 (~$79.99) is the better buy.
Which headphones support LDAC?
Of the models we cover: the Sony WH-1000XM6 and WF-1000XM6, and the Soundcore Space One and Liberty 5. Your phone has to support LDAC too; it's widely supported on Android, and iPhones don't support it.
Do Beats headphones work with Android?
Yes. The Beats Solo 4 has one-touch pairing on Android as well as Apple devices, and the Powerbeats Pro 2 have a Beats app for Android. If codec support matters to you, the Sony and Soundcore picks in this guide support LDAC.
What happened to Jabra Elite earbuds?
Jabra left the consumer earbud market in 2024, so there are no Elite picks in our guides. Android owners who liked them should start with the Sony WF-1000XM6, or the Soundcore Liberty 5 on a budget.
