The Best Headphones for iPhone in 2026

AirPods Pro 3 are the best headphones for most iPhone owners. AirPods Max 2, Powerbeats Pro 2, Beats Solo 4, and Sony's WH-1000XM6 cover everyone else.

By The WhichTVShouldIBuy editorsUpdated 5 picks

On iPhone, codecs matter less than how well a headphone fits into Apple's world. iPhones top out at AAC over Bluetooth, so the real differences come from Apple features, comfort, battery, and price. Apple's H2-chip models, including Beats' Powerbeats Pro 2, have the edge; Sony's WH-1000XM6 is the over-ear to get if you'd rather not pay for or carry AirPods Max 2.

These picks and fit scores are an editorial synthesis of published reviews and manufacturer specs, not our own testing. Prices are approximate Amazon prices seen on October 5, 2026, not live quotes; they change often, so check the current price before you buy.

The strongest ANC in SoundGuys' testing, with an H2 chip in each ear cup, Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, and lossless, ultra-low-latency audio over USB-C. Reviewers agree on the downsides: 386.2 g, a firm clamp, a Smart Case that leaves the headband exposed, and 20 hours with ANC. At ~$429 (list $549), buy it if ANC and Apple integration matter more to you than weight.

    Pros

    • Pro: Strongest ANC in SoundGuys' noise-cancelling testing
    • Pro: H2 in each ear cup; Apple claims up to 1.5x better ANC than the original
    • Pro: Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, and Live Translation

    Trade-offs

One-touch pairing on Apple and Android, Personalized Spatial Audio, lossless USB-C and 3.5 mm wired audio, and up to 50 hours of battery. Digital Trends says it's worth buying on sale at about $100, and it was ~$99.95 on Oct 5. There's no ANC and the on-ear fit gets tiring, so it's for home and short trips.

    Pros

    • Pro: Up to 50 h battery; a 10-minute Fast Fuel charge gives ~5 h
    • Pro: Lossless USB-C and 3.5 mm wired audio
    • Pro: One-touch pairing on Apple and Android

    Trade-offs

    • Trade-off: No noise cancelling

Wirecutter's top noise-cancelling pick is lighter than AirPods Max 2 (~254 g vs 386.2 g), rated for longer battery life (30 hours vs 20 with ANC), and cheaper at ~$378. On iPhone it connects over AAC, so its LDAC support goes unused. Unlike either AirPods model, it has a 10-band EQ.

    Pros

    • Pro: Wirecutter's top pick and SoundGuys' best for most people
    • Pro: 12 mics and multipoint make it a strong office-call headset
    • Pro: LDAC and LC3 support plus a 10-band EQ

    Trade-offs

    • Trade-off: 30 h with ANC trails the Momentum 5 (57 h) and Space One (40 h)
    • Trade-off: SoundGuys saw stronger noise cancelling from the AirPods Max 2

How we chose

For iPhone owners we weighted platform fit first, meaning H2-chip features and easy pairing, then travel, calls, and value. Sound counted for less than usual: over Bluetooth, an iPhone uses AAC no matter which headphone you connect, so codec support doesn't separate the models. Workouts mattered for the Powerbeats Pro 2 pick.

SoundGuys' earbud rankings and MacRumors' April 21, 2026 comparison of AirPods Pro 3 and the WF-1000XM6 set the top pick. PCMag, The Verge, Trusted Reviews, Macworld, and 9to5Mac informed the AirPods Max 2 pick; MKBHD and Tom's Guide the Powerbeats; Digital Trends the Solo 4; and Wirecutter and SoundGuys the WH-1000XM6.

Why LDAC and aptX don't help on iPhone

iPhones send Bluetooth audio using AAC, or the basic SBC codec. They don't support Sony's LDAC or Qualcomm's aptX family, so those logos on a spec sheet do nothing for an iPhone owner. That isn't a knock on Sony, Bose, Sennheiser, or Soundcore; it means you should judge their headphones on ANC, fit, battery, and calls instead.

Wired is a different story. AirPods Max 2, the Beats Solo 4, and the Bose QC Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) all list lossless audio over USB-C.

Who should skip AirPods

AirPods are the default on iPhone, not the only answer:

  • You want to tune the sound: neither AirPods Pro 3 nor AirPods Max 2 has a user EQ. The WH-1000XM6 has a 10-band EQ.
  • You want light over-ears: the WH-1000XM6 is ~254 g; AirPods Max 2 is 386.2 g.
  • You train hard: Powerbeats Pro 2, for the earhooks.
  • You watch TV through a Sonos soundbar: the Sonos Ace Ultra, for TV Audio Swap.
  • Your budget is under $100: the Beats Solo 4 at ~$99.95, or the ~$84.99 Soundcore Space One if you need ANC.

Frequently asked questions

Do Sony headphones work well with iPhone?

Yes. The WH-1000XM6 and WF-1000XM6 both support AAC, the codec iPhones use, along with multipoint. You lose LDAC, which iPhones don't support. MacRumors still recommends AirPods Pro 3 over the WF-1000XM6 for iPhone owners.

Are AirPods Max 2 worth it over AirPods Pro 3?

For most iPhone owners, no. AirPods Pro 3 cost ~$179 and get 5 of 5 fit scores for travel and value; AirPods Max 2 cost ~$429, weigh 386.2 g, and score 2 for value. Buy the Max 2 if you want over-ears with the strongest ANC in SoundGuys' testing.

Do Beats work with iPhone?

Yes. The Powerbeats Pro 2 use Apple's H2 chip, and the Solo 4 supports one-touch pairing on Apple devices. Both work on Android too: the Solo 4 has one-touch pairing there, and the Powerbeats Pro 2 have a Beats app for Android.

Do AirPods Pro 3 have an EQ?

No. AirPods Pro 3 don't offer a user EQ, and neither do AirPods Max 2. If adjustable sound matters to you, Sony's WH-1000XM6 has a 10-band EQ, and MacRumors points people who want EQ toward Sony's WF-1000XM6 earbuds.
