LG G6 OLED: prices, fit, and what the testing says

LG's brightest OLED, built to hang on the wall. Amazon doesn't sell it, and our helper never picks it, for reasons worth knowing.

Our take

The short version

The G6 is the OLED you buy when the room has daylight and you won't give up per-pixel blacks. Its Primary RGB Tandem 2.0 panel makes it the brightest TV LG sells, and RTINGS calls it one of the only OLEDs truly suited to bright rooms. It keeps Dolby Vision and four HDMI 2.1 ports, like the C6.

It's also a wall TV first. In the US it ships with a flush wall mount in the box and no stand, and LG's five-year limited panel warranty covers only the G and W series. Plan on buying a stand if it won't hang.

We price it from LG.com because Amazon had no US listing for it on October 7, 12, 14, or 19. The 65-inch was $2,499.99 there on October 12 and 14, against an original $3,399.99. That's $1,100 more than the C6 was by October 19.

Price history

Every G6 figure here comes from LG.com, and none moved between October 12 and 14. The 97-inch is in another league at $19,999.99, and it's also the one size without the tandem panel. We last checked the G6 on October 14, before the C6's October 19 drop, so we don't know yet whether the G6 moved too.

Fit by room and use

By room

Bright room4/5Tied 8th of 15 (4 TVs)
The brightest LG OLED, with a new coating that handles reflections better than the C6's. RTINGS still sees more glare on it than on Samsung's S95H, which is why it sits a step below the very top.
Mixed light4.5/5Tied 2nd of 15 (7 TVs) · average of bright and dark
Strong. It keeps its blacks deeper in a lit room than the S95H, per RTINGS, so lamps and daylight both work.
Dark room5/5Tied 1st of 15 (8 TVs)
Per-pixel contrast, same as every OLED here. Its extra brightness is wasted in a dark room, which is the C6's argument.

By use

Movies & TV5/5Tied 1st of 15 (8 TVs)
Dolby Vision, deep blacks, and LG's premium processing. RTINGS singles out its format support for people with disc collections, though like the C6 it skips HDR10+ and DTS passthrough.
Sports4/5Tied 6th of 15 (7 TVs)
Bright enough for day games and clean in motion. Mini-LEDs still win on full-screen brightness in a sunny room.
Gaming5/5Tied 1st of 15 (6 TVs)
Four HDMI 2.1 ports, high refresh, and VRR. Same core gaming kit as the C6, so it's not a reason to pay more.
A bit of everything4.67/5Tied 1st of 15 (7 TVs) · average of movies, sports, and gaming
Ties for the top all-round reading in the catalog. Its picture isn't the problem. Its price is.
