Bose Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar: what the testing says

The Lifestyle Ultra is hard to recommend at $1,090.98. RTINGS calls it decent for mixed use and dialogue and satisfactory for movies, and What Hi-Fi? gave it three stars. Its strengths are wireless streaming, very low latency, and Roku TV Ready setup, but the Sonos Arc Ultra tests better for about the same money.

Our take

The short version

Bose's new flagship, launched in May 2026, is a 5.1.2 bar with up-firing drivers and Bose's PhaseGuide side drivers. You can grow it to 7.1.4 with the Lifestyle Ultra Subwoofer ($899) and a pair of Lifestyle Ultra Speakers, but Bose says older Bose surround speakers won't pair with it.

RTINGS isn't won over. It calls the bar 'decent for mixed usage', decent for dialogue, good for music, and satisfactory for movies, and lists a 'lack of low-bass rumble' and no DTS support as cons. It also found Bose's SpeechClarity mode 'made voices too shouty'.

What it does well: AirPlay, Spotify Connect, Google Cast, Alexa, 'exceptionally low audio latency', and Roku TV Ready setup on a Roku TV. There's no HDMI input, no optical, and no IR remote in the box. At $1,090.98 it costs about what the Sonos Arc Ultra does, and RTINGS rates the Sonos higher for dialogue and music.

Your TV

TVs it fits and syncs with

At 43.3 in (1,099 mm) wide, the Lifestyle Ultra fits under a 55-inch screen, whose picture is 47.9 inches wide, and anything bigger. It's wider than the picture on a 48-inch screen or smaller. Our rule: a bar fits when it's no wider than the picture, since every TV is a little wider than its picture and the bar then won't overhang it. Check the gap under the screen too: the bar is 2.6 inches (67 mm) tall.

Bose names these features for Roku TVs. Any other TV still works with it over HDMI eARC.
