Sony BRAVIA Theater Bar 5: what the testing says
The Theater Bar 5 is a dialogue bar with a sub. RTINGS calls it great for dialogue and TV thanks to its center channel, and it was $348 at Amazon.com on October 26. Don't buy it for Atmos: it has no up-firing drivers, and RTINGS and Engadget both found the virtual height unconvincing.
Our take
The short version
Sony's 2026 Theater Bar 5 is a 3.1-channel bar with a center channel and a wireless subwoofer. RTINGS says its 'discrete center channel helps anchor voices to the screen so that dialogue sounds clear, focused, and easy to understand', and rates it great for dialogue and TV shows.
Everything else is ordinary. RTINGS rates it decent for music and satisfactory for movies, and finds the bass 'boomy and somewhat one-note'. It decodes Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, but with no up-firing drivers the height is simulated; Engadget 'noticed almost no simulated overhead noise'. There's no Wi-Fi streaming and no room calibration.
With a recent BRAVIA it picks up Voice Zoom 3 and Quick Settings control, though not Acoustic Center Sync. At 35.5 inches wide it fits under a 42-inch screen.

TVs it fits and syncs with
At 35.5 in (902 mm) wide, the Theater Bar 5 fits under a 42-inch screen, whose picture is 36.6 inches wide, and every size we cover. Our rule: a bar fits when it's no wider than the picture, since every TV is a little wider than its picture and the bar then won't overhang it. Check the gap under the screen too: the bar is 2.6 inches (67 mm) tall.
Sony names these features for Sony TVs. Any other TV still works with it over HDMI eARC.
Sony TVs: Voice Zoom 3, BRAVIA Quick Settings
With a compatible BRAVIA, Voice Zoom 3 lifts dialogue (only for sound coming from the TV over ARC), and the bar's settings appear in the TV's Quick Settings menu. It doesn't support Acoustic Center Sync. Sony's Voice Zoom 3 list covers BRAVIA models from 2024 to 2026 plus the 2023 A95L. Sony names 2024 or later Sony TVs. Sony's page (opens in a new tab)
